Long-distance mobility: Knorr-Bremse wins equipment contract for Talgo ECx passenger trains

  • Knorr-Bremse and Spanish vehicle manufacturer Talgo sign equipment contract for 23 ECx passenger trains for Deutsche Bahn, with an option for 77 more trains
  • From the first quarter of 2021, Knorr-Bremse will supply braking systems, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, entrance systems, as well as windscreen wiper units with a total order value in the mid tens of millions (EUR)
  • The new ECx trains will be deployed from 2023 on the Berlin-Amsterdam route and on long-distance services within Germany, contributing to shorter journey times, greater availability and barrier-free mobility

Knorr-Bremse has concluded an equipment contract with the train manufacturer Talgo for 23 new ECx long-distance trains. From 2023, the locomotive-drawn passenger railcars will expand Deutsche Bahn's fleet for national and international long-distance services.

The ECx trains are designed to make journeys faster, more attractive and more comfortable, particularly on the Berlin-Amsterdam route as well as tourist routes to the North Sea and the Alps. The order, with a total volume in the mid tens of millions (EUR), includes the option to equip an additional 77 trains, which would bring the total order to 100 trains.

Knorr-Bremse has been awarded an “A-” rating for its climate protection measures by global not-for-profit environmental organization CDP (formerly Carbon Disclosure Project). This puts Knorr-Bremse at CDP’s Leadership level, ranking among the top 13 percent of its peer group.

Supporting high-speed train operations: Knorr-Bremse and Hitachi Rail agree long-term maintenance cooperation for UK Intercity fleet

  • Knorr-Bremse signs a framework contract to supply Hitachi Rail with new friction technology for over 1,200 intercity Class 800/801/802 train cars
  • From the first quarter of 2021, Hitachi intercity trains operating in the UK will start using a new generation of brake pads and discs developed by Knorr-Bremse
  • The four-year, multi-million-euro contract includes an option for an additional four-year extension

Starting in the first quarter of 2021, Knorr-Bremse will start supplying a new generation of brake pads and discs for Hitachi intercity Class 800/801/802 trains serving UK intercity routes. The transition to the new friction technology will see all the trains equipped with the new brake pads and discs; optimizing the vehicles’ braking systems performance as well as minimizing maintenance time and life-cycle costs.

Urban mobility: Knorr-Bremse secures its largest ever multi-system order in Chinese metro history

  • Knorr-Bremse and Chinese train producer CRRC have sealed a major order for braking and entrance systems for Beijing’s new metro line 17, as well as heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems (HVAC) for line 19
  • In total, Knorr-Bremse will deliver systems in the mid double-digit million-euro range for 78 trainsets with a combined 624 cars to CRRC subsidiaries Changchun Railway Vehicles and Sifang in Qingdao
  • In addition, Knorr-Bremse Suzhou’s RailServices unit is to modernize a train of the city of Shenyang’s metro line 2, and Knorr-Bremse’s MERAK-Jinxin HVAC joint venture has received overhaul certification for CRH5G high-speed trains

Knorr-Bremse, the global market leader for braking and other systems for rail and commercial vehicles, has won its largest ever multi-system order for Chinese metro. The company will be delivering braking and entrance systems to equip Beijing’s new metro line 17, as well as HVAC systems for the city’s line 19.

With braking system deliveries having started in the third quarter of 2020 and continuing to the end of 2023, Knorr-Bremse will provide technologies worth a mid double-digit million-euro sum for 78 trainsets. Manufactured by Chinese train producer CRRC, the rail vehicles will be operated by Beijing MTR.

Cologne Public Transport Authority commissions Alstom and Kiepe Electric to supply 64 trams

The Cologne Public Transport Authority (Kölner Verkehrs-Betriebe AG, KVB) has signed a contract with the manufacturer consortium Alstom and Kiepe Electric for the supply of 64 low-floor trams. The order for the new Citadis type trams with special adaptations for the German market is worth 363 million euros. Alstom’s share amounts to 60% of the total value of the contract.

Regional mobility: Knorr-Bremse to supply braking systems for more than 120 Alstom regional trains

  • Knorr-Bremse and Alstom extend contract to supply braking systems for Coradia Lint and Coradia iLint regional trains until 2025
  • The contract, in the low double-digit million-euro range, covers braking systems for 129 trains, with options for up to 350 more
  • The global market leader has already supplied braking systems for more than 1,000 vehicles from the earlier Coradia Lint generation – helping to make regional transportation safer, more efficient and more available

Knorr-Bremse, the global market leader for braking and other systems for rail and commercial vehicles, and Alstom have agreed to extend their existing framework contract for 129 Coradia Lint and Coradia iLint regional trains. Knorr-Bremse will supply KBGM-P braking systems at least until the end of 2025, thereby making an important contribution towards the continuation of the Coradia platform.

Dr. Jan Michael Mrosik appointed as Chairman of the Executive Board of Knorr-Bremse AG

The Supervisory Board of Knorr-Bremse AG today unanimously appointed Dr. Jan Michael Mrosik (56) as Chairman of the Executive Board of Knorr-Bremse AG for a period of three years from January 1, 2021.

The Supervisory Board also decided to extend the appointment of Dr. Jürgen Wilder, member of the Executive Board and responsible for the Rail Vehicle Systems division, by five years, thus setting the course for long-term and future-oriented alignment of this division.

Knorr-Bremse DETC expands capacities with a new plant and continues in-depth cooperation with Dongfeng

  • Knorr-Bremse DETC is building a new plant to meet the strong demand

Knorr-Bremse DETC Commercial Vehicle Braking Technology Co., Ltd. (Knorr-Bremse DETC) recently held the groundbreaking ceremony at a 50,000 m2 site in Dongfeng Industrial Park where a new plant is to replace the company’s three separate existing factories. The aim is to expand manufacturing capacity, improve efficiency and reduce production costs with a view to strengthening cooperation with Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle.

High-level talks with the new top management of Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle were held to discuss further cooperation. Knorr-Bremse DETC is a joint venture between Knorr-Bremse, the global market leader for braking systems and a leading supplier of other rail and commercial vehicle systems, and Dongfeng.
